W. Richard Bukata, M.D., President
Doctor Bukata founded The Center for Medical Education in 1977.
The Center has developed printed, computerized and Internet publications
for emergency and primary care physicians and nurse practitioners
which are subscribed to by over 5,000 health professionals. In addition,
the Center sponsors approximately 30 continuing medical education
programs annually that are generally attended by over 3,000 physicians.
In conjunction with Knight Systems Software, he began developing
programs to facilitate emergency department operations in 1991.
Currently, over one million visits are entered into EDITS programs
annually. In recognition of his contributions to emergency medical
education, he was awarded the coveted "Education Award" of the American
College of Emergency Physicians in 1993.
ACCOUNT EXECUTIVES
Each EDITS account is serviced by an account executive.
The account executives have extensive experience in project
management, excellent "people" skills and health care management
backgrounds in which they have operated at the highest levels.
The account executives, with appropriate back-up, provide
complete oversight of the EDITS "experience" - initial contact,
demonstration, benefit analysis, agreement finalization,
initial training and startup, interface development, ongoing
periodic oversight and upgrading.
Robert Cowsill
Mr. Cowsill has extensive experience with emergency department
operations dating from the mid 1970s and has been intimately
involved with the EDITS project since its inception in 1991.
He has provided extensive input into the design and functionality
of the EDITS software programs and is thoroughly familiar
with all phases of their operation. He is the primary author
of the EDITS Users Manual and has substantial experience
in client support, training and system implementation. Bob's
talents in these areas are highly regarded and he is routinely
known to "go the extra mile" to support the needs of EDITS
clients.
Karen Hempel, RN
Ms. Hempel, a mathematician and graduate of the Barnes Hospital
School of Nursing in St. Louis, practiced clinical nursing at several
major California hospitals before becoming a Quality Analyst for
a large regional medical center. Her responsibilities included projects
assessing and improving patient care, and she assisted the medical
staff in performing clinical quality research. Most recently she
has served as the Director of Client Services for a large, multihospital
emergency physician staffing company where she was responsible for
programs regarding regulatory compliance, performance improvement,
customer service, physician documentation, reimbursement and practice
management. Karen has extensive experience at project management
and is very familiar with the operation of contemporary emergency
departments, and, as such, will provide strong support for EDITS
clients.
TECHNICAL AND DEVELOPMENT STAFF
The technical and development staff has had major ongoing
roles in the systems design and analysis that have resulted
in the EDITS programs. They have supported all installations
to date, have assisted in the development of hospital software
interfaces and have actively supported ongoing client needs.
Jeffrey Knight
Mr. Knight is president of Knight Systems Software located in Santa
Monica, California. His firm has developed a number of commercial
software programs and has collaborated extensively with The Center
for Medical Education in the development of its multiple commercial
and noncommercial software programs since 1985.
